No, an applicant does not require to have applied to a college or university. The important point is to fill out the application form as much as possible.

Yes, it is possible for a student to run out of funding. Depending on the program a student chooses, there is a specific amount of money a student receives per month that may be used before graduation. Listed below is a breakdown of the maximum amount of months each program is assigned:

  • UCEPP (adult upgrading) – 8 months
  • Level I (college diploma) – 24 months
  • Level II (undergrad university program) – 40 months depending if previously sponsored for Level l
  • Level III (master’s, doctoral, and professional program) – 16 months

Every semester post-secondary institutions send their students an automatic email regarding tuition. Please thoroughly read through the email, there is usually an area designated for sponsored students to view accounts and balances. Invoices are not usually sent out until October for the fall semester and February for the winter semester.

A letter of sponsorship is sent to your post-secondary institutions on your behalf. The post-secondary institution then direct bills the PBOES PSE Department. A student may never receive money to pay for tuition themselves.
